Personality:
Susato Mikotoba is a woman born with a role, and she is fiercely loyal to that role. From a time when she was very young, she was raised alongside Kazuma in order essentially serve as his legal aid, offering him advice and knowledge on his path to become a lawyer. When it is believed that Kazuma died, Ryunosuke steps up to take his place (as a defense lawyer), but Susato remains loyal to Kazuma at first and suspicious of Ryunosuke. He had only just proven that he did not kill John Wilson, after all, and he is heavily implicated in Kazuma’s death. It’s not until Ryunosuke presents Susato the paper they used to shut the wardrobe door, thereby proving he couldn’t have killed Kazuma, that she accepts his innocence and ultimately gives him her blessing to take his place in Great Britain and to carry on Kazuma's legacy.

As a result of her upbringing, Susato is very sharp-witted and smart. She is drawn to what she does not know, and will look things up if she can, or physically examine things to figure it out (like the way it’s said she took her father’s watch apart to figure out how it worked). She also has a hobby of avidly reading The Adventures of Herlock Sholmes, a series of detective novels (which are of course, based on their real life counterpart). When she first meets Sholmes in person, she is already able to match wits with him. She is a professed fan of the great detective, but isn't afraid to call him out when his deductions are wrong--gently, of course. Just a sliiight correction, even if it’s Ryunosuke that does it, and voila! Sholmes was right all along. Of course.

In addition, while the game is careful not give too much away, Susato is often seen doing her job at the defense's bench--listening to testimony and pointing out when things might not add up, making insightful comments that will point the player in the right direction. She will also take the time to look things up in her book--British laws and other things that can help them out, which particularly is useful when Ryunosuke is new to British court. A good example of this is when she looks up summation examinations, which are then used multiple times since then to turn trials around, despite being an old and dated right that is rarely acknowledged.

Even when Susato is absent from her assigned courtroom duties, her presence is definitely felt. In the case against Ashley Graydon, for which Susato was called back to Japan and was therefore absent, she suspects that the culprit will not play fair during trial--so she has the foresignt to set a trap for him that will out him during trial. This trap required her to both: a) steal a piece of machinery. using pickpocketing skills she only just learned; and b) break the law by tampering with the crime scene. But it worked.

Susato is even able to pose as a male defense lawyer and hold her own in court, finding her own contraditions and performing her own cross-examinations--even in a world biased against her due to her gender. She did this out of desperation for her friend, Rei Membami, because no other lawyer would take her case--but it just goes to show that under very different circumstances, and with a little support from her father perhaps, she could hold her own in the courtroom.

If only she'd be given the chance.

Abilities & Inventory:
- an extensive knowledge of the Japanese and (to a lesser extent) British legal system, due to being trained from a young age to be a judicial assistant
- A knowledge of martial artes, as shown in her own throwing technique she can use to defend herself (the Susato throw…)
- A British law book which she is always seen consulting in sprite animations, in order to help Ryunosuke when was still new to the Old Bailey (British court). The book in Songerein is sadly now defunct, having been turned into Susato’s ā€œmagic journal.ā€

Suitability & Plans:
At first, I fell in love with the cast of Great Ace Attorney and merely wanted to voice test Susato. I’ve since been really excited to explore what her relationship with Kazuma would be like, especially since so little of it is truly developed in her canon. I’m also really excited for Susato to discover technologies and inventions that are outside of her time period; things like the internet and especially crime fighting technologies like DNA and proper fingerprinting. There is a lot to learn there and she is equally fascinated by all of them—and that’s not even taking into account the dreamotion abilities she can learn!

On top of that, Susato is a young, friendly and learned face that is still finding her way in the world. While it would be helpful to have friendly faces she knows to help her come out of her shell, she wouldn’t necessarily need them in order to adapt or make new friends. Even from the limited voice testing I’ve done on the test drive, I feel that Susato is a great fit for the game, and I hope for a chance to show it.

Test Drive Sample: On-going.
