[ She can feel a gentle tingling sensation running in the opposite direction as his hand trails up her back and into her hair, just enough to send sparks to keep her awake. Her head rolls into his touch for a moment and she blinks her eyes open, just in time to catch his lips atop her forehead.
It's warm, and she knows that it's not all from Kazuma. It is the strangest feeling, to selfishly want more and yet be so completely satisfied at the same time, but at least she knows one thing.
His presence really is like a protective blanket. At the moment, it feels just right, and even though she said as much, she can't imagine ever wanting to kick it off.
She looks up at him with a surprising sense of clarity. ]
I... [ There's a pause. It's almost like she's about to say something else, but in the end, she continues in a light tone. ] I was going to mummify your legs next, but you have a talent for ruining my plans.
Hm... [He may putting a little more weight against her. Sleepy.]
You still can. [His voice is quiet and gentle. She can't work on his legs while he's still holding onto her though. Their nose could be touching now. There was a content look on his face and curiosity. His hand is stroking the back of her head, undoing what's left of her braided hair.]
[ How can he be sleepy now? Clearly Susato should have read more romance novels growing up, because she's not used to being this close to anyone, and never even knew she wanted it. She can feel his breath against her own and pulls back slightly, if only just to get a better look at his face.
Heart still racing as her nose brushes against his. Her hair, undone, leaving her feeling so vulnerable.
And she sighs shakily, trying to play it off as dramatic as clings to him, using his chest as a pillow once more. ]
[ Her face lights up just a bit in recognition, because 76 certainly talked about Egypt. She doesn't allow this to interrupt the dance, however. She's following his lead like before, and she's keeping up, so surely she can't be doing that badly...? Leave it to Sholmes though for the sentiment to take a rather morid turn. ]
Me? Fight? ...I wonder if the rigorous training wouldn't kill me first. I think my battles are best fought in the courtroom.
[ Though whether she'd ever see the inside of one ever again remains to be seen. ]
Oh, but I've had a taste—a soupçon—of your dreaded takedown. Deploy that same technique on the battlefield, and your enemies would flee in terror!
[ They might be just as likely to retreat (or simply be stunned to inactivity) if they witnessed the fresh moves Sholmes is throwing down. He'll forgive Susato if she doesn't keep up with ... whatever it is he's doing.
Mid-spin, he glances over his shoulder. ] Gorilla? Absolutely not!
[ Susato stops abruptly, if only because Sholmes should know this. He is probably enjoying the embarrassment blooming on her face, though, so at least one them is having a laugh. Despite everything, Susato is still smiling too, if only for how laughable the idea of her as a soldier is.
(Then again, most of Japan would find the idea of women lawyers laughable.) ]
Anyway... he has photographs. Mr 76, I mean. Not many people know about it, but this sniper might be in there. And I remember there being a gorilla.
[ Susato admires the little wings as he takes a better look, and her face kind of lights up as it hits her why she saw wolf features. His comment, even in jest, was said so flatly it takes her a moment, but she lets out a very light chuckle. ]
I didn't know she liked owls.
[ ...Eating them, perhaps? Nah, she won't think about that. ]
I'm glad they're getting along. Was she friends with Fang?
Mm, she had a good friend that looked very much like an owl, but was a dragon just a little younger than herself. Think the image stuck, so anything owl-like reminds her of them.
[Including, obviously, owls themselves. It was cute in a way, even if it was attached to a time he kept packed down. He and the dragon were the only ones here that held those memories after all, no reason to think much of them for himself.
A low hum.]
I don't think so- but then again given how she'd follow me, they could have been.
[ It can make a big difference in your life. Susato is quiet for a moment, taking in his words. There might have been the makings of a smile, and Alphen never would have been able to tell that some of the "difference" she was considering weren't all inherently good. ]
Yes... he has.
[ She just leaves it at that, though... for now. ]
Do you look up to her as well? ...Who is she?
. . . And, forgive me for not asking sooner, but what is your name?
. . . Different teams. [ She chuckles. ] Well, I suppose they intersect. My father is a professor, and he worked in a lab at Yumei University when he wasn't overseas.
I am a judicial assistant. When I say 'our cases,' I really mean the ones I am working with the lawyer to which I've been assigned.
[ For a moment, Susato wonders just how well Sora knows Kazuma, but at the invitation, she decides to put it aside in her mind, for now. She looks at little surprised at the way Sora suddenly puts his hands up, but in the end, she just casts a glance over her remaining display. ]
Um... sure. Even if it's not a giant rabbit, maybe I can win something for Kazuma, too... [ She might be trailing off, like she's thinking to herself. Don't perceive her. ]
...Could you help me pass out the rest of these, then?
[Sora has to keep his hands up because he has to be ready to dodge that toss now! He has to! He doesn't want to get tossed again!
... Oh, she's not going to toss him. So he slowly puts his hands down. But don't mind as Sora tilts his head a little at that one last mention of Kazuma. He grins as he nods and goes to grab the remaining portions of cookies to help her out.]
Uh-huh, sure! Let's do that quickly so we can get to winning some toys for the people we like!
[Ahahah. Oh, did Sora catch on? It's only easy because Sora's doing the exact same thing for the person he likes.]
[ Susato finds her journal quickly enough and is scribbling when Tifa answers. She looks up to see Tifa holding out the hairclip, so she'll definitely go out of her way to stop and put it back in her hair where it belongs. ]
Thank you. [ For returning it. Said in passing before she continues: ] Nothing to worry about, I promise.
I'll find him yet, but at least let me help you with the dogs in the meantime. It was hard enough to keep hold of Aerona, so I can only imagine how much of a handful both of them will be.
[ After scribbling off something quickly to him in the journal, she'll put it away again. ]
[With a breathy laugh, Tifa beckons for Aerona to follow, and now she decides to be an obedient pup. She found their way out (and opened the way to Kazuma thank you very much, she thinks!), and home time means treat time at the very least for it. So, she pads along behind them as they leave the maze behind.]
I think she's the oldest. She might not be part of Aerona's family, but she definitely acts like the mom sometimes.
[And takes good care of all the dogs when she has to. It's sweet that she's adopted the role happily.]
But I wouldn't say no to the company either way. It's a bit of a walk from here.
( ren laughs at that, one that shakes his shoulders. she's a quick learner! he's maybe even a bit impressed. )
For my own benefit. ( and there's a playful wink to follow that up. )
Moving passages, shadowy walkways... And the flowers, well— you can hear them speaking a different sort of language all together even from just outside the borders.
( entirely separate from the language of flowers they touched upon here, mind you. )
[ Indeed, he did go out of his way to be inclusive of platonic affection as well, so she's not surprised that he was able to help just as easily for Chongyun and his friend. ]
He told me that he sleeps under the stars. [ Unusual, indeed. ] Perhaps he can write better under such conditions, but I would have to read more of his work to know...
He sleeps under the stars..? But don't we all have a treehouse dwelling we are given..?
[That is peculiar. Chongyun frowns, bringing a hand up to his chin. Did Venti just... not like sleeping in his room? Was he homeless?]
Well... he is a strange one. I do not know many people from Mondstadt, but he is certainly eccentric.
[At that question, Chongyun pauses, before shaking his head.]
Ah, no... I'm afraid not. My friend is still back home in Liyue.
[And now that he mentions it, it's definitely been a while since he's seen Xingqiu... this is probably the longest he's gone without seeing his friend, even including the times he's gone on exorcism excursions.]
[ Fight for it? That doesn't sound like her. She was raised as an assistant, and she is a woman at that. Perhaps a part of her would always be submissive. Then again, fight is precisely what she and Naruhodo had been prepared to do. For change. For justice.
And maybe she was starting to feel it here in Songerein, too. The unrest, and the desire to reach for what she wants. ]
I don't know about taking control, but I do believe in fighting for greater things. It is not always a quick process by any means, but whenever you and father are ready to move forward, I believe you will make Songerein a better place.
I should emphasise that fighting is not all about a physical fight. I was not suspecting that I could see you as a... soldier.
[She can't. Susato is too demure? Too delicate for such a thing. At least, so she would seem to be. And she suspects that not all parents want to see their children get into such a pastime. She can't help wondering what kind of man Yujin is when he's not focused on politicking.]
You seem to have picked up on that, however. It is important that we all strive for better things. Better days. For all of us, not necessarily individuals. I believe we have many people here capable of beginning to pave that road if they are only given a chance.
[She doesn't mean herself by that.]
If I may, Lady Susato, what kinds of things would you like to see here? What sorts of changes? What things made available? What would provide you with a more comfortable and pragmatic style of living?
[ Her fifteen minutes of fame were over, almost as soon as it'd begun. No longer princess, but she felt like she was floating on a cloud. "You look lighter already!" Aerith's cheerful voice rings out. Susato could still hear it, and she could still feel the way the yellow lily felt in her hands, when she was trying to decide whether she would even gift it to him. How would she even find the words to explain...?
Turns out, when the time came, she just knew.
Doesn't take long to find Aerith's page. She's flipped past it enough times lately. ]
[ Perhaps of most interest to Susato is the fact Aerith's response splashes across the page at all, exuberant and curious as ever. She draws a little daisy in the corner, as if that's any kind of a greeting. ]
